I absolutely love surprises, as long as I'm not on the receiving end, so when our good friend and next door neighbor (it's super convenient) asked if I could help plan a surprise party for his wife (also our good friend and next door neighbor...) I was giddy with excitement. One of our favorite things to do with friends and family is rent an electric "duffy" boat and cruise around Newport Harbor. Brenton and Emily had never heard of this so it was an easy decision for the party destination. I swept Emily off for a few hours while our awesome group of friends assembled at the harbor. Emily thought I was taking her to a fun spot for "happy hour", so her reaction to seeing everyone waiting on the dock, picnic baskets and coolers in hand, was priceless. Needless to say, it was a fabulously simple birthday surprise and two of the happiest hours of the weekend.
We are so grateful for the community we have found in San Clemente. It's not always easy to make friends as adults, especially with couples where the guys are just as much in love with each other as the girls. We often forget that we have only lived here a year, it seems like we have been celebrating life and birthdays with this group of people forever. They've welcomed us to their homes, churches, sushi bars, and themed parties and we dove in head-first. I have a feeling we have found 8 new life-long friends and I am so excited to see how our lives will continue to connect from one chapter to the next. This just got a little sappy, maybe it's still the Prosecco talking, but I'm just super grateful for good friends and great memories, and little boats, and epic cheese platters.
Ok, gotta run, only 24 hours until the next shin dig!
