What we love about: Ojai!

We hit the road a few weeks ago and took a little getaway to beautiful Ojai, California to celebrate our sixth anniversary. The only plan was to not have any plans, we were just looking forward to a few days away from home to relax, recharge, and drink good wine. On our drive there, we made a quick stop at the Getty Villa in Malibu, where Dan took me the morning of the day he proposed. We couldn't miss the opportunity to recreate the photo of us, and it may have just become a tradition for every six years.

{2007, the day Dan proposed  &  2014, the day before our 6 year anniversary}

{You know you're in Southern California when the grape vines are the only things changing colors in the fall.}

{I could get used to a villa in Malibu}

We stayed at the loveliest little inn at the end of a road called The Emerald Iguana and absolutely loved our Treehouse room complete with a cute porch, fireplace, and huge claw foot tub!

{the patio at our treehouse}

{Ojai farmer's market. This stuff made me a cold brew believer}

{Beautiful baskets! Currently regretting not buying them all.}

{Persimmons for days! Like a tomato-apple-citrus-fig hybrid from heaven.}

{daydreaming at the most adorable little shop, Fig, in downtown Ojai}

{Margaritas at noon because: vacation, obviously.}

{This is my spirit cacti. Is that a thing now?}

{Never wanted to leave!}

We were surprised at how tiny the town is, just 30 minutes from Ventura beach and PCH, with wide tree-lined streets and front yard herb gardens surrounded by tree covered hills and orange groves; it's an earth lovers paradise. Downtown is spotted with cozy restaurants and shops , artist galleries, natural grocery stores, local wine and olive oil tasting rooms, and historic markers. We definitely did not feel like we were still in Southern California, just an hour and a half north of downtown Los Angeles! It seems like most of the traffic comes from tourists on weekends and even downtown shuts down in the early evening, so Ojai is an awesome place to camp or stay for a few nights to get away from the hustle of city life. The stars are incredible and there are several trailheads on the edge of town.

{Dan found a little buddy!}

{last morning hike before hitting the road}

{professional hiking pose. I can teach you.}

{pit stop on our way out of town at Summer Camp, they were closed but their awesome bench is open 24/7}
 We can't wait to go back to Ojai and explore more that this colorful little town has to offer but if you happen to make it there here's a short list of recommendations:
Stay:
The Emerald Iguana
Do:
Casa Barranca Winery or Tasting Room
Ojai Certified Farmer's Market on Sundays
Ride the Ojai Valley Bike Trail**
Shop:
Fig curated living
Made in Ojai artist co-op
Summer Camp
Rainbow Bridge foods
Eat:
The Farmer & The Cook (vegan)
Ojai Beverage Company
Agave Maria's
*Adult only, very private, tucked at the end of a culdesac 3 blocks from downtown. The Blue Iguana is their kid & dog friendly sister property a few miles away.

**it's beautiful for the first 8 or 9 miles throughout Ojai, but I don't recommend riding the full 16 miles to Ventura - it's pretty industrial and sketchy in places... not to mention uphill the whole way back.
